Irish Trot
for a line of as many couples as will.
Reconstructed by Dafydd Cyhoeddwr.
The music seems to be one phrase of 8 measures, repeated as required (as of this reconstruction, 4/29/2009, I do not have any recorded music to match it to).  There is an intro figure and a coda figure, along with 2 progressive figures.
The intro figure takes a single repeat, while the coda figure takes two
Progressive figure 1 has the unusual (but not unique) feature of being done just with couple 1 first, then with the rest down the sides, which may change the repeat formula.
Progressive figure 2 follows the normal (n-1)x3 repeat formula
Music: none
Intro figure
1&2: Everyone lead up a double and fall back a double, face your partner
3&4: Set and turn single, left
5&6: Everyone lead down a double and fall back a double, face your partner
7&8: Set and turn single, right
First time through the first progressive figure:
1: Man 1 take right hands with woman 1, then left hands
2: Couple 1 change places in a double and drop hands
3: Man 1 and woman 1 do a double back from each other
4: Man 1 and woman 1 do a double toward each other
5: Man 1 and woman 1 meet in a double (yes, that's two doubles toward each other to meet finally)
6: Man 1 and woman 1 fall back a double
7&8: Man 1 and woman 1 arm (by the right arm, walking left in two doubles) and remain on improper sides of the set
Second (and subsequent) times through the first progressive figure:
1: Man 1 take right hands with woman 2 and woman 1 take right hands with man 2, then each takes left hands
2: These two sets of two people change places in a double, drop hands, face in again, and take inside hands
3: These two sets fall back a double from each other
4&5: They take two doubles to meet
6: And they fall back a double from each other
7&8: Couple 1 arms with each other as couple 2 arms with each other
R: Continue this figure, the rest following.  Instead of sitting out at either end, dance the figure with each other, then come back in as the opposite type.  Once everyone is back where they started, the next figure can begin.
Second progressive figure:
1: Couple 1 switch by right hands, face down and woman switch to take man 1's right hand with her left
2: Man 2 take woman 2 with his left hand
3: All three lead a double toward man 2
4: All three fall back a double from man 2
5: Man 1 and man 2 honor their partner
6: Man 1 and man 2 honor each others' partner
7: Man 1 switch with woman 2 by the right hand, as woman 1 switch with man 2 by the right hand
8: Man 1 and woman 1 switch by left hands
R: Continue this figure, the rest following, sitting out one repeat at the top or bottom and returning as the opposite type.  Once everyone is back where they started, the coda can begin.
Coda figure, first repeat:
1&2: Lead up a double, fall back a double
3&4: Cast off and invert the line in two doubles
5-8: Men take their partners in their left hands, and the whole line circles to the left in 4 doubles (should be enough, eh?) until they are back where they started circling
Coda figure, second repeat:
1&2: Lead down a double, fall back a double
3&4: Cast off and re-vert the line in two doubles
5-8: Men take their partners in their right hands, and the whole line circles to the right in 4 doubles (should be enough, eh?) until they are back where they started the dance
