The IFO weighs 4 ounces but the bulk of the weight is in the motor, batteries, servos and receiver (which is true for any rc aircraft but especially for this one). In order to minimize the flying velocity, I would suggest the following:
- Replace NiCad batteries (51 g) with 2 Li-poly (7 g)
- Quick calculations suggest this would decrease the flying speed from about 12 mph to 9 mph.
- Replace the motor.
- Current motor and gearbox is a GWS weighing 56g. The motor and balsa mount used in the CQAR prototype weigh about 5g.
- Replace receiver and servo system with lighter one.
