Blaise Tobia • Pillars of the Community
This series of photographs was made in 1981-82 while I was residing in Detroit.
All of these buildings had ceased being banks in the financial crash of 1929-30 and had been through multiple after lifes.
Because Detroit had never fully recovered from the crash, virtually none of its former banks
had been demolished for new development.
The images were shot on 4X5 Ekatachrome and prints were done in Cibachrome (later Ilfochrome).
They have recently been scanned via Imacon and a new series of inkjet prints has been produced.
Pillars of the Community - former banks of Detroit (1981-82)
