What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine that originated in China more than 3000 years ago, then spread into Asia, Europe and America, spawning a variety of techniques, treatment styles and theoretical frameworks.

Today, acupuncture is practiced around the world as a form of complimentary and alternative medicine and is recognized by the World Health Organization as useful in the treatment of chronic and acute pain, neurological disorders, emotional and musculoskeletal disorders, addictions, etc.

How does it work?

Acupuncture is based on the principle that our health is depending on the balanced functioning of the body’s motivating energy, known as Qi. Qi is a subtle life energy that circulates throughout the body via energy channels, called meridians. According to Chinese medical theory, pain and illness result when the smooth, cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes blocked or unbalanced. Acupuncturists use needles, moxa, cupping and other techniques to stimulate specific points along the meridians, called acupoints. This stimulation helps restore balance and the smooth flow of Qi, so that all the parts of the body can work together in harmony again.

What is Five Element Acupuncture?

Five Element Acupuncture is a form of acupuncture based on the principle that the five elements existing in nature (fire, wood, water, earth and metal) affect a person’s personality, emotions and health. The acupuncture practitioner seeks to restore the balance between these elements and to create a free flow of the energy throughout the body.
Five Element Acupuncture is different from other types of acupuncture, because it addresses the person at the levels of body, mind, heart and spirit.
