Quotations

Should you use a direct quotation or not? Consult with your professor, but here is a rule of thumb: 1) rarely use direct quotations from secondary sources, and 2) use direct quotations from primary sources when they are particularly revealing about the historical character, time, or attitude. Direct quotations can bring an historical account to life, but make sure they add to, and don't detract from, your account.
