Citation

The standard form of citation in the discipline of history is the Chicago Manual of Style, and you should use both notes and bibliography in your paper. There is certainly some wiggle room on format: perhaps you prefer dates like this, 21 July 1962, and some newspaper stories have authors. And some guides suggest you don't need page numbers for newspapers. Ask your professor.

Formatting tips: If you use MS Word, you can adjust the indent of all of your notes at once by opening the note window, selecting all, and using the Format: Paragraph: Indentation: Special: first line.

You can also switch between footnotes and endnotes by selecting Insert: Footnote: Options: Convert.
