Philadelphia Woodturners Review our Prototype
Yesterday, we got a chance to have the Philadelphia Woodturning Center review our prototype lathe. Albert and Tina LeCoff and David Bender (Bender) spent over an hour reviewing each of the components, looking for weak spots, giving advice and generally being very excited about our project. Overall, it went very well -- I'll post a more updated version of their ideas a little later, but to celebrate, Josh, Dave, and I rewarded ourselves with some yummy burritos.
Prototype Lathe
A final modification to our prototype lathe (reinforcing the headstock with thicker bolts) will lead us into our testing phase. This coupled with our metrics will provide us a detailed parts list which can be used to create safe and reliable lathes anywhere our manual is distributed. More photos to come!
Metrics pt. 1
Currently, we're working on our part metrics to quantify each of the critical parts to ensure that we create a safe lathe. Priorities include the headstock, drive shaft, tailstock and base. Each of these will be broken down and material specifications will be created.
