MAGNITUDE
(top scrolling arcade space shooter)

Game Functionality Goals

- Enemy alien spaceships scroll from top to bottom of screen while moving back and forth in random movements

- Speed and density of alien spaceships will steadily increase the longer the game lasts

- Player spaceship and enemy alien spaceships will fire lasers (Player's laser to be controlled by pressing and holding Z key)

- Collisions for lasers, spaceship colliding with spaceship, and collecting objects

- Getting hit by enemy ship or its lasers destroys player's spaceship

- If destroyed, player's spaceship will take 3 seconds to respawn and Magnitude Scale is reset

- Explosion graphic for destroyed spaceships

- Score increases upon destroying enemy spaceships

- Destroyed ships emit a random selection of Magnitude Orbs, Time Orbs, and EMP Bombs. Colliding with them will affect player status

- Magnitude Orbs increase the size of the Magnitude Scale

- Letting enemies slip past bottom of screen lowers size of Magnitude Scale

- As the Magnitude Scale grows, player's spaceship will move faster and fire lasers at a faster rate

- Time Orbs increase the time limit by 15 seconds

- EMP Bombs, once collected from destroyed enemies, can be stored as inventory and used by pressing X key

- A used EMP Bomb will destroy all enemies on screen, but they will not emit any items

- Once a predetermined number of alien spaceships have spawned in total, they stop spawning and the win screen is displayed

- If player continues to next stage, speed and density of alien ships will begin at a higher level

- Implement background music and game sounds for lasers, explosions, and item collection

- Options screen with controls for turning on and off background music and game sounds
