GIS Course to be Offered in Summer Quarter (4/1/2003)

An introductory GIS course taught this summer from 4 - 7 PM on Thursdays.

ENVE 865-591 Intro to GIS Th 4 - 7 PM, CRN 41449

This course is open to graduate students only, with special permission granted to undergraduates to enroll only if the course is not full. There will be a maximum number of students allowed to enroll (20) due to the limitation on the number of computers available in the CAEE CAD lab. If the course does get the minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, so please preregister right away if you are interested.

Dr. Robert Brulle Receives New Grant (4/1/2003)
Dr. Robert Brulle, , in conjunction with Dr. Craig Jenkins of Ohio State, has received a grant of $96,006 from the Nonprofit Sector Research Fund of the Aspen Institutute for an 18 month study titled "Foundation Funding for Environmental Advocacy."

Dr. Robert Brulle Receives New Book Contract (1/16/2003)
Dr. Robert Brulle has recently received a contract to write a book entitled
"People, Power, and Pollution: Critical Perspectives on the Environmental Justice Movement", to be published by MIT Press. The senior co-author is Dr. David Pellow of UC San Diego.

New NSF Grant Awarded to Dr. Susan Kilham (1/6/2003)
Dr. Susan Kilham has received a new NSF three-year award study "The Response of Tropical Stream Ecosystem Structure and Function to Amphibian Extinction". The PI is Karen Lips; S.S. Kilham, M. Whiles,and C.Pringle are co-PIs.

Dr. Claire Welty to Serve as Technical Chair of the AWRA Annual National Conference to be held in Philadelphia November 3 - 7, 2002 (10/1/2002)
The Amercian Water Resources Association will be holding its annual national conference in Philadelphia this year. Jan Bowers, Director of the Chester County Water Resources Authority, is conference General Chair. In her capacity as Technical Chair, Dr. Welty is responsible for organization and oversight of the technical program. The conference will consist of 75 oral sessions and one poster session; over 365 papers will be presented.

Back-to-School BBQ

Profs. Haas and Kilham named AAAS Fellows (7/1/2002)

Profs. Charles N. Haas and Susan S. Kilham have been named as new Fellows of AAAS. Dr. Jim Spotila is also an AAAS Fellow.

Drexel Environmental Science Graduate Student Awarded
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Mr. Bryan Wallace is a recipient of a prestigious NSF Graduate Fellowship that covers full stipned and tuition for three years of graduate studies. Mr. Wallace is the first Drexel recipient of this award in the history of our environmental graduate programs. Mr. Wallace's academic advisor is Dr. Jim Spotila.
