History
The graduate curricula in environmental science and environmental
engineering were established in 1963, in response to the national
need to analyze the condition of the environment and to develop
new technologies to remediate current problems and prevent additional
ones from arising. In 1997, Environmental policy was added to address
the need for scientists and engineers to understand the legal, political,
sociological and economic aspects of solving environmental problems.
Drexel University has granted
m ore than 700 M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in environmental science and
in environmental Engineering over a period of 38 years.
The first MS student in Environmental Policy will be graduating
in 2003.
Mission Statement
We are committed as academic scholars to learning about and improving
the environment. We have a deep concern about environmental issues
and advocate for a better environment. We take a multidisciplinary
approach to solving environmental problems by using science, engineering
and policy to foster development of a better environment. We endow
students with a balanced view of the environment and encourage them
to develop and use new technologies to continue to protect and improve
the environment and human interactions with it.
