Diagnosis
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12, by my family doctor. I have idiopathic scoliosis, which means that there is no know cause. My curve is called an "S" curve and at diagnosis it was 17 and 29 degrees.
I wore a brace VERY UNFAITHFULLY for several years. I hated the brace- it was uncomfortable and made it impossible to wear the clothing I liked. My curves continued to increase over the years and my shoulders were uneven.
By the beginning of 9th grade, the right side of my back was sticking out and my curves were up to 45 and 64 degrees. It was at this point that my doctors insisted that I have surgery as soon as possible.
