Preparing for Surgery

Before surgery I needed to donate 3 pints of my own blood, which was not easy, but my parents and doctors wanted it just in case. I had a very hard time donating the blood. They had a hard time finding the veins in my arms, and I would get very upset and nervous. The first time I could not give enough blood to save so they ended up throwing it away!

Besides blood donations, bunches of X-rays, and taking iron pills, there really wasn't anything else I needed to do before surgery. My school had been notified that I would be out for several months and they made arrangements for teachers to come to my house and tutor me in several subjects.

What upset me the most was that I would be missing my 9th grade trip and spending time with my friends. I didn't like to talk about the surgery but my mom made me. She really wanted me to be prepared for what was ahead.
