"Pay attention to where you are going because
without meaning you might get nowhere"
~A.A. Milne

Professional Philosophy

These statements are all adapted from my freshman English syllabus.
I believe these ideas represent my most strongly held beliefs
and apply to every aspect of my professional life.

  • To learn you have to do ~ Whether it's writing, researching, math, philosophy, football, swimming, or crochet you will never fully understand until you try to do it yourself.
  • Pursue the why's and the how's ~ accepting a claim, fact, or statement at face value is boring at best and dangerous at worst. Asking questions is the basis of learning.
  • Communication is key ~ A lack of communication leads to misunderstandings, missed opportunities, and mistakes. Keeping open lines of dialogue lead to better relationships and better results.
  • Everyone's perspective is valid and important ~ We all come from different life experiences. Conversation and debate lead to better ideas and sharing of knowledge. Ignoring someone because you disagree closes the mind and stagnates the brain.
  • Believe passionately ~ Embrace new ideas, engage in discussion, but don't let yourself get blown around by every interesting thought you come across. There comes a point where you need to decide what is important and stand firmly by your beliefs.

The beach revives and restores me physically and creatively.
