InfoSeek Search engines:

Functionality:

Your site should be listed within a week of your submission.

Infoseek has a spider which searches the web. Approximately a week after you submit a
site, the spider crawls out there and verifies the pages you submitted and any pages linked
to those pages. After that, it will return to your site at least once every two months or so.
If you change your pages often, it will re-crawl your site more frequently.

New pages are now added up to a week after you submit using the Add URL form. Although the
spider will eventually make it to your site on its own, an added push from your manual
submission can't hurt! You can only submit a page once in any 24-hour period.

Infoseek's Add URL does not work on the weekends. Email submission, however, goes on every
day of the week.

They ask that you send the submission by email if you have more than 50 pages. They also
accept only email submissions from various domains in defense against heavy spamming and
redirections which it has historically experienced from these domains. Among these domains
are GeoCities and America On Line. Although I have been told that there are more, I have
not been able to ascertain which ones they might be. Adult sites must also be submitted via
email.

Various publications assert that Infoseek cannot handle extremely large pages via their Add
URL form, and that the breakdown occurs after 64K or so.

The check URL feature is very helpful in that it will tell you whether or not a site has
been submitted as well as notifying you of problems which Infoseek may have with your site.
For each search, Infoseek goes through the top returns to see if there are pages from a site
appearing more than once. If so, Infoseek lists only one page from that site and links the rest to
the "More results" link.

The keyword meta tag may contain up to 1024 characters.
Infoseek recognizes ALT text and will automatically recognize word forms. In other word, the
query "dance" might also bring up "dancing," "dancer," or "danced."
Infoseek Select sites are chosen by Infoseek's editors from the index. They are selected
based on what those editors consider to be their editorial value, the number of links to
the sites, and traffic.
