Mike spent nearly three decades in industry as an operations manager, trainer, and internal consultant. He has managed multi-dimensional work groups of all sizes throughout the northeast quadrant of the country. He facilitated classes at Rosemont College and has done contract work through Rowan University. His courses include Leading Effective Organizations, Leadership and Professional Development, Problems in Human Relations, Organizational Theory, Organizational Behavior, Business Research, Introductory Statistics, New Technologies in Communication, Business Process Reengineering, Construction Planning and Scheduling, and Customer Service Practica. Mike's son, Daniel is an artist who transferred from Drexel's College of Media Arts and Design to the Savannah College of Art and Design (commonly and fondly referred to as SCAD), in the fall of 2003. Daniel graduated from SCAD in 2006 with a degree in Sequential Art, resides in Chicago (Mike's favorite city), and is working on graphic novels while minimizing his footprint on our planet.

Mike and Daniel

In his graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, Mike received an M.S. in: Organizational Dynamics. He received his Ph.D. from Drexel University's School of Education in: Educational Leadership Development and Learning Technologies. Mike's research related to the perceptions of nontraditional students and their educators relative to the use of collaborative teaching and learning in undergraduate classes. He put on hold his pursuit of a second M.S. at Penn, this time in Philosophy.

During his graduate work, Mike had the opportunity to study in Shanghai, Beijing, London, Windsor, Dublin, Belfast, and Stockholm. He works full time now in Drexel's Instructional Technology Support (ITS) group in its Information Resources and Technology (IRT) department - concentratingon online learning and faculty development.

As the Associate Vice President - Instructional Technology Support, Mike coordinates the activities of (1) the Online Learning group, (2) the Client Services Group, and (3) the Academic Technology Innovation group. He formerly led the OLT that supports 42K end-users at Drexel University, the Drexel College of Medicine, as well as six partner institutions for which Drexel hosts Blackboard Vista 8 in an ASP model. In addition, the OLT provides ongoing training and support for emerging technologies such as Wimba, TurnItIn, Dreamweaver, Camtasia, Impatica, Respondus, EndNote, and many others. This support initiative is expanding as, for example, Drexel University was the first institution to site-license Impatica - for students.

A dynamic speaker, Mike frequently participates in education- and technology-related conferences presenting papers, conducting workshops, facilitating roundtable discussions, and demonstrating his online courses.

Mike has taught completely online classes, at the graduate and undergraduate levels, since 2000 in WebCT CE, WebCT Vista, eCollege, Blackboard, Blackboard Vista 3, 4, and now 8, and several CMSs hosted by large textbook publishers. He is involved in Drexel University's Online MBA initiatives as well as the College of Engineering's Engineering Management program, which is delivered completely online, and has taught for the School of Education in their MS in Higher Education program.

In 2008, Mike attended and/or presented at no fewer than eight education conferences. That summer, he served on a committee with colleagues and the Pennsylvania Department of Education to review a proposed online graduate degree to be offered by LaSalle University. Then, later in the year, Mike was a member of an international panel during the US - China Virtual Symposium entitled Building Virtual Global Communities. Representatives from China and Austria as well as across the US participated.

Thus far, in 2009, Dr. Scheuermann has:

  1. been appointed to the Wimba Advisory Board,
  2. served on the Bb World 2009 Conference Committee,
  3. served on the search committee for the University Librarian, at Drexel University,
