Welcome to

the Culture and Communication

Faculty Lecture Series

The Department of Culture and Communication hosts a lecture series where sociology, anthropology, and communication faculty present their current research for peer commentary and discussion. Every third Wednesday of the month we convene in the library of building 47 (33rd Street and Powelton Avenue) from about 1 to 3 pm or so to hear one or two presentations of papers in progress. When possible, relevant manuscripts will be distributed for preview a few days in advance of the presentation. We allow 20 to 30 minutes for lecture and 20 to 30 minutes for Q&A.

Here is the schedule of presenters for Fall/Winter '03-04:

October 22: "Test language and the real world: Narration, narrative, and the question of test validity," Barbara Hoekje, Director, English Language Center

November 19: "Echoes of the Middle East in the French suburbs," Anne-Marie Obajtek-Kirkwood, Modern Languages
