The Kumeyaay Historical Society is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the education, preservation, archiving and serving as a repository for all things Kumeyaay / Kumei on both sides of the border. We are dedicated to preserving and sharing our historical collections and archives with Kumeyaay tribal members, visitors, and the community at large.

Membership in this Society is open to all individuals in accord with the following purposes:

  1. To encourage an interest in and an understanding of Kumeyaay / Kumei culture.
  2. To encourage preservation of the historic and prehistoric archaeological heritage of San Diego County, and adjacent and related regions (including Baja California, Mexico).
  3. To provide library services, with particular focus on San Diego County and adjacent and related regions (including Baja California).
  4. To promote cooperation and interaction between professional and societies and Kumeyaay / Kumei peoples.
  5. To promote the historical and cultural contributions of the Kumeyaay / Kumei.

The Kumeyaay Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by the following: City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture; County of San Diego; foundation and government grants; individual and corporate memberships; donations; bequests; sales from museum stores and Photo Archives; admissions and proceeds from fund-raising events.
