This page gives 10 words and descriptions to describe me.

Who Am I?

1.) Son
I was born February 24th, 1984 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  My parents are Pam and Joel.  I lived with my parents for 18 years (until I moved to school).  I am still very close and we get along very well most of the time.  I am thankful to have such great parents who always want the best for me.  Because I am their only child, I try extremely hard to always do the best I can in everything I do.

2.) Only Child
Some people think that being an only child is difficult.  I have to say that I tend to disagree.  From the time I was little, my neighbor was my best friend and somewhat like a brother.  When he was not around, I found numerous ways to occupy.  Because of this I feel that I am more independent and self-sufficient than most people my age.  Although I do not know what it would truly be like to have a sibling, I must say that I like being an only child.  For this reason, I now live in an apartment at Drexel by myself.

3.) Grandson
I felt lucky when I was younger because I was privileged enough to know all four of my grandparents.  As I got older, I grew apart from my father’s parents but kept a great relationship with my mother’s parents.  I spent a lot of time with my mother’s parents and I was very upset when my grandfather passed away in 1998.  Because we were so close to them, my grandmother moved in with us and currently still lives with my parents.  Although it has becoming a challenge to find things she can relate to, I still enjoy spending time with my grandmother.

4.) Student
For 1st through 12th grade, I attended schools in the Council Rock school district.  In 2002, I graduated somewhere in the middle of my 930 person graduating class.  Both of my parents have Bachelors and Masters degrees so I knew that I was expected to attend college.  At the time I applied to schools, my main focuses were engineering and architecture and so I wanted to apply to schools that focused on these majors.  Also, because of the size of my high school, I had become accustomed to a larger school.  The only two schools I applied to were Temple University and Drexel University. I was accepted to Drexel’s engineering program but after only one trimester, I was very unhappy.  I switched to the school of business for the remainder of my freshman year but was still unhappy.  For my sophomore year, I left Drexel and took various classes at Bucks County Community College.  It wasn’t until my friend told me about Drexel’s Sports Management program that I returned to Drexel.  It has been almost 2 years since my return and I must say that I have found a major that I enjoy.

5.) Sports Fan
For as long as I can remember, I have been a sports fan.  My sports of choice are ice-hockey and football; however I also follow baseball, basketball, and professional boxing.  I am a die-hard Philadelphia fan but I also pay close attention to most other teams in each of the four major professional sport leagues.  My family had Phillies season tickets for two years and I truly enjoyed going to the games with them.  However, the team got so bad that they no longer felt like paying for season tickets.  Currently, I try to attend as many Flyers games as possible and at least two or three Eagles games a season.  Although I like the 76ers and Phillies I prefer to save my money and watch them play on television.

6.) Athlete
I have played soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and, hockey at one point or another.  When I was 12, I took up ice-hockey and, because of its expense and time consuming nature, dropped all of the other sports.  Ice-hockey was, by far, my favorite sport to play and the sport that I was best at.  I played competitively until, during a game when I was 17, I shredded the cartilage in my right knee.  I had surgery and a year later, I participated in a roller-hockey tournament in which I re-tore my cartilage.  This injury forced me to stop playing the sport that I had come to love.  Also, because of the injury, I am no longer supposed to ride a bike, run for long distances, or put any considerable pressure of my right leg.  Although my doctor does not approve, I still try to ice-skate and roller blade frequently and also play hockey with friends once in a while.

7.) Car Enthusiast
No one in my family really has a love of cars and this is why I’m not sure where I developed such a love.  I don’t know when it started but at some point even before I was able to drive, I started to read and learn about all types of cars.  When I was 16 I got a job at a car audio and video store in which my responsibility was to install the equipment.  I never really got into the mechanical aspect of cars but this job led to my love of home and auto electronics.  Once I was able to drive, I found that it was one of my favorite things to do, so much so that I put 17,000 miles on my car the first year I had it.  The decrease in opportunities to drive is the only thing I have come to dislike about attending school in the city.

8.) Employee/Intern
The main reason I chose to come to Drexel was for the ‘coop experience’.  Once I switched to Sports Management I learned of the numerous job opportunities that were available with sports teams and sports related businesses.  When it was time for me to begin to apply for coop jobs, I could not think of a better company to apply to than Comcast-Spectacor.  They are a monster in the Philadelphia sports scene and I could not think of a better place to gain job experience.  After recently being granted an interview with Comcast-Spectacor, I was fortunate enough to get the coop job.

9.) Music Enthusiast
Much like my love of cars, I am not really sure where my love of music comes from.  Both of my parents enjoy listening to music but for them, it is not completely necessary.  Personally, I do not like to do many things that do not involve music.  I drive, walk to class, and even sit around my house with music always playing.  I like all types of music, from Frank Sinatra to rap to classical music.  When my family got cable internet service, I spent most of my time on the computer downloading music, making cds, and reading about new music that is soon to be released.  Although I have much less free time these days I still attempt to get as much new music as possible.

10.) History Enthusiast
In high school I had several history classes that I enjoyed.  When I lived in the dorms freshman year at Drexel I began watching the History Channel and reading books about historical happenings.  I now watch the History Channel and other channels that discuss historical events almost every day.  My preferred time in history to learn about is World War 2 but I also like many other times in American history as well as Roman and Greek history, etc.  The best shows I believe I have ever seen is the series, Band of Brothers.
