QVAS
The Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society, Inc (QVAS), founded in 1972, is a locally based 500+ member chapter of the National Audubon Society serving Meriden, Wallingford, Cheshire, Hamden, Northford, North Haven, and North Branford, Connecticut. QVAS devotes its efforts to promote public interest in the conservation of birds, wildlife, their habitats and other natural resources. We help people increase their understanding of the inter-relationships that abound in the natural world expanding their awareness and enhancing their appreciation.
Riverbound Farm
QVAS owns and manages a sanctuary, Riverbound Farm on the Quinnipiac River, located at 1881 Cheshire Street in Cheshire, Connecticut.
It was acquired in 1989 as a bequest from the estate of Esther Tappert Mortensen (wife of Rev. Ralph Mortensen), both long-time members of the chapter. The sanctuary includes a house in development as a nature center and has 23.4 acres of diverse habitat preserved permanently as open space. The grounds are open to the general public dawn to dusk and admission is free.
