Looks certainly do matter and taste is definitely everything! For most of the building, a simple design of various solid colored paints and tiles are used creating for such floors like the ground floor a pleasant welcoming affect. Being as though Macalister Hall is primarily used as classroom space, student organization offices, and even a faculty lounge, to use an excessive amount of ornamentation as is used on the Main building would be inappropriate. However, to convey a sense of academics that the university is known for, solid vivid colors which can stimulate thinking are used. From the images below, you can also see how these finishes coincide with the Dragon Shops which enhanced the entrance as well as blended in with the initial design. Again, note the usage of the colors used to give lovely design for the ground floor. Also the use of certain luminaries for up lighting, wall washing and down lighting give an even better look to the space.
Whether it be the interior designer or the architect who chooses the finishes of the building, they are just as important as the structural or even electrical systems because they create a beautiful edifice for all to enjoy. |
