Knitting Thesaurus

Introduction

This thesaurus is designed to be used to characterize English Language books, journal articles, and web sites that seek to instruct or explain the techniques, equipment, and fibers used in hand-knitting. Machine knitting and automated factory knitting have been excluded. The controlled vocabulary in this thesaurus can be used to index works and facilitate subsequent retrieval of desired information using search queries based on the thesaurus terms.

Knitting has been practiced for thousands of years as a means of creating garments or textiles. There are many styles and techniques and stitches. Most hand-knitting is done as a hobby now, although there are still those who knit for a living. This mini-thesaurus is designed to aid both.
