Introduction to My Golf Tips
I hope that my website can entertain and possibly enlighten some people about the gloriously addictive game of golf. I have learned all of these tips through various sources and personally use them in my golf game. I hope these suggestions can help you as much as they have helped me.
In this website you will find:
- Tutorials for swinging a golf club and putting, beginning with proper stance, posture, grip, and then the swings themselves.
- Page dedicated to golf equipment.
- Section about proper golf etiquette while on the course.
- Helpful links to websites that I find to be useful.
Terminology and General Notes
- Par - Completing the hole in the amount of strokes (turns) as determined by the golf course (most holes are par 4).
- Birdie - Completing the hole in one fewer stroke than determined by the golf course.
- Bogey - Completing the hole in one more stroke than determined by the golf course.
- All holes are par 3s, par 4s, or par 5s (very rarely there are par 6s). Par for most golf courses ranges between 70-72 for a full 18 holes (e.g., there are 12 par 4 holes, 3 par five, and 3 par three to make a par 71).
- Handicap - How many strokes over par it takes for a player to complete 18 holes (e.g., 18 handicap on a par 70 course signifies a collective score of 88 which means the player averaged a bogey on each hole).
- Address - Ready position directly before player swings golf club.
- Tee Box - Location where player starts the hole.
- Green - Location of the hole itself and where player putts from.
- Fairway - Stretch of grass leading up to the green that offers the easiest grass to hit from.
- Rough - Area bordering the fairway that contains obstacles (e.g., deeper grass, trees, rocks).
