Gwyn's TANNER, GRAYSON & MICHAEL

Tanner is our oldest cat. He's about 10. He's from an animal shelter. When we got him, he was so sick he wouldn't eat so we fed him with a syringe (no needle). Cat's - it is said - won't eat if they can't smell their food. Anyway he is the dominant alpha animal in the house; only Calvin will cross him. Tanner will sit in a doorway, and no animal will try to pass that doorway - not even the dogs. We pretend he is a Norwegian Forrest Cat, but he's probably some kind of mix.

Michael belonged to some people who bought him as a present for their small boy. But the small boy was allergic to him. So these people.....Grrrrrr...tied Michael out in the backyard on a 6 foot line with a stake to the ground. Can you say, "bait"? Well Mrs. Gwynhala went to visit these people, saw the cat, and told them if they ever wanted to get rid of the cat she would take him. They called the next day. He's pretty much a chocolate point Siamese short-hair, we think. He's kind of skittish but very nice.

Grayson was a barn cat. Mrs. Gwynhala showed quaterhorses for a while, and the owners had some exotic animals including a Cerval cat, a bobcat, and a Bengal cat. The Bengal bred with some feral cats and Grayson was one of the results. He has a really great personality - second in command but does not lord it over others the way Tanner does. He like to watch Animal Planet on TV.
Gwyn's TANNER, QUINTON & JAZBO
Quinton. Our Vampire Kitty. By this time Mr. Gwynhala has lost track of where the kitties come from and has given up on trying to stop them, but has, with great difficulty, managed to have his office declared the ONE room in the house that is a no-kitties zone. Quinton was the last of his litter to be adopted. He has striking black and white markings and long hair, but he was born with a double set of fangs. He also has low self-esteem and high ambition. These qualities struck us as rather vampire-like, and we gave him a name borrowed from the series Dark Shadows. His duplicate fangs have been removed. He wants very much to have Grayson's position as #2 cat, so the two of them don't get along very well. But Grayson bears his rank with ease and without arrogance, while Quinton plots and sneaks and acts rashly. Tanner is on good relations with all of the kitties, even Quinton. And Quinton - despite his ambition & other dark qualities can be a really nice cat.

Jazbo came from a woman and her children who were giving away kittens from a box at the supermarket. The woman said....Grrrrr.....that what they didn't give away, the traffic on their street would take care of. Can you believe these people? Needless to say Mrs. Gwynhala scooped little Jazbo up promptly and brought him home.

BTW. Let the record show that Mr. Gwynhala does not approve of all of these cats. One cat would be just fine for him. But what can you say in the face of such cruelty?

Gwynhala's MONJO

Monjo. I don't remember where Monjo came from. But we had another black kitten, JackJack, that Mrs. Gwyhala loved dearly. One day we were fostering a sheltie (it had been kicked out of the barn for scratching the nose of a prize quarterhorse). Something happened - we don't know what - involving our dog Keesha, the sheltie, and JackJack, and JackJack ended up dead. JackJack is now buried in the roots of a pine tree with a statue of St. Francis watching over him. I put the sheltie down - a very tough choice but there was another incident where one of our goats died mysteriously and she was suspected in that too. I guess that makes Mr. Gwynhala pro-death penalty. Anyway, Mrs. Gwynhala prayed that JackJack would come back to her. And one day she found Monjo, and decided that this was the answer to her prayers.

Did I mention that Mr. Gwynhala does not approve of all of these kitties? But...hmmm...an answer to prayer...how do you argue with that?
