Hello everyone:

Our advisor Ms. Gail Gibbs noted to me that our Dean of Students David Ruth was impressed with what we've accomplished so far this year - so we are definitely getting some recognition this year. Let's keep doing what we're doing.

Jenn K has set up another event for this Saturday 5.21 which is:

Philadelphia Cares About Fairmount Park Day!
Saturday, May 21st
8:45am-12:00pm

Site Assignment: Historic Bartram’s Garden Area of City: West Philadelphia

Every year over a thousand volunteers come out for Philadelphia Cares About Fairmount Park Day to clean and green our Philly's most treasured resource.

Bartram Gardens - was the first botanical garden in the city of Philadelphia. It is a historical site built in the 1700s. For the event we are going to be doing some gardening and spring cleaning.

The best thing about the location is not only is beautiful but it accessible by trolley from Drexel.

We will meet by 8:30 AM at the big ugly Dragon on 33rd and Market. NSCS will purchase a bunch of tokens if we decide to take the trolley.

Here is the link to the location site, check it out at http://www.bartramsgarden.org/

This is the link to our group page, please reply to this email or sign up here if you are thinking about going:
https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=104872&supId=80172050

Directions to event:

From 76E: Take the Gray’s Ferry exit and bear left on the exit ramp, turning left at the exit ramp light. 1.) The Hearts on Fire Dance / Fundraiser with Circle K is this Saturday February 12th from 7 - 11 PM. Please purchase tickets today in the Creese Center Lobby if you are still planning on attending so that we can have a better estimate for attendance. If you want to purchase them tomorrow, please email heartsonfire@drexel.edu to let Circle K know. Ticket Prices are $20 for one and $35 / couple. If you don't have plans yet make sure you come through!

2.) If you are attending and want specific jams to be played, please send a copy of the MP3 to the DJ his name is Louis, contact him @ lak24@drexel.edu.

3.) Decorating. If you would like to help with decorating and setup please come to Creese at 10AM on Saturday morning. The more people that show up the faster we can get Grand Hall ready to go.

4.) On a side note, we have been planning an event to recognize NSCS National "Dive into Diversity" initiative. We want to hold a Potluck Dinner/ Foreign Film Night tentatively set for Friday Feb. 25th around 6.30 PM. If we have our own food it will have to hold it at a members house off-campus, a few people have offered their places and our VP has a projector so that we can watch the movie on a 10 ft screen. Anyone that is interested in attending and has a movie or food idea please email dsonscs@drexel.edu, more info to come next week.

5.) One last thing, SAVE your Campbell Soup labels, we will be collecting them to donate school supplies to a local school at the end of the year, more on this later. Here is a list of labels to save: http://www.labelsforeducation.com/eligible_products.asp?cpovisq=

Welcome Back!

The NSCS Board has gone through some changes as of the end of Fall Term and now looks like this:

President/Co-Webmaster - Kersi Asare
Vice President/Co-Webmaster - Tony Le
Secretary - Andrea Good
Treasurer - Matt Denarie
VP of Community Service - Grace Daniel

Emeritus Board Members:
Jasmin Guleria; Diane Mele; Erin Fitzgerald; Chirag Desai; Jessica Maurer

There are still positions available please hit dsonscs@drexel.edu with an email if anyone is interested in being a part of the board.

As a group we really need to get 2005 started off with more communication between the board and its members. The first meeting this year will be on January 25th at 5:30 PM, Conference Room C in the Creese Center Basement. Our Regional Coordinator from the NSCS National Office in Washington D.C., John Michael May, will be visiting Drexel to check on our status and will give a short presentation. There will be food and all that good stuff there so I hope to see a lot of people show up.

At this meeting we will address new ideas for events and ways to improve as a group this school year. Please email us some ideas that you guys want to do, we'll list them on the website and discuss them the meeting. Some ideas we'd like to plan are:

·  A trip to NYC or D.C to visit museums/nightlife

·  A party for members at a local restaurant

·  A cookout in the Spring

·  Working with other Service groups on campus

·  Participating in the local soup kitchen

We will also discuss our groups contributions to the Tsunami Relief Effort. The first thing the aid agencies were looking for were monetary donations, so I was thinking our Chapter could donate some of our funds to help out. Drexel is collecting as a University so we can probably contribute through them, with aid going to the Red Cross, UNICEF and CARE. Last year we also sent First Aid supplies to El Salvador after an earth quake hit that region so we could possibly do something like that again. We should send something before our meeting on the 25th occurs since the quicker it is received the better, we will keep everyone informed.

If you have any comments, events or ideas you want addressed by the board or discussed at the general body meeting don’t hesitate to send us an email: dsonscs@drexel.edu or you can reach me on AIM: scionx3442. Thank you and I look forward to a successful 2005.
