Join DrexelNORML:
We need volunteers to help organize events and other things. Money alone won't get events planned and executed, so if you have the time to help, please do! Contact us to see what you can do, or sign up at DrexelNORMLs forum.
Write Your Governor, Congressmen, and Senator:
The only way our federal government will change the laws is if the people tell their representation in both the House and Senate that they want marijuana legalized. This is a big way to help us. Getting signatures and presenting them to your representatives and sentators is also a big help. To have your voice heard in the state, you can contact your State Senators and State Representatives.
Join one of the other groups dedicated to reform:
There are many different groups who want marijuana laws reformed. The Marijuana Policy Project, the Drug Policy Alliance, and Americans for Safe Access have contributed greatly to the cause.
Participate in rallies:
NORML, MPP, DPA, and ASA all organize rallies around the USA. When you receive a notice about one coming up, mark it on your calendar and make it a point to come. Every voice counts, and the louder that voice gets the harder it will be for the governments' stance to stay the same.
Be an informed voter/vote your conscience:
Reading on the subject will help you understand considerably why we are so passionate about changing the laws. Drug War Facts is a great place to start, as well as Erowid. The NORML National website is a great source of information, as well as the other organizations linked above. For reading about Cannabis and its history in general, we highly recommend "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" - by Jack Herer (Free text version here ), and "Why Marijuana Should Be Legal" - by Ed Rosenthal. Use your conscience when voting for candidates who blatantly ignore public opinion and reason. Some political parties do have a policy of being for drug reform.
Run for local office on a platform of drug law reform:
The only way things will change is if a political candidate is willing to publicly say legalization is a better option. At the very least it would open up a huge debate about the topic, and that will work to our advantage in very big way.
Help spread the truth about drugs and the drug war:
A great way to help our cause is just to spread knowledge and information. Debunking peoples misconceptions about marijuana, its history, the reasons why it's illegal, go a long way in persuading people that maybe the governments propaganda really isn't the truth.
Don't get caught!
Knowing your state laws and knowing your rights are the first steps in not getting caught smoking marijuana. It's also the first step if you do happen to get caught, and have to go to court. If that's the case, then you can browse this list of lawyers who are available to help in your case.
Jury Nullification:
One of the most powerful tools available is your power as a juror. If you ever get called into jury duty and happen to be in a drug case, then you have the ability to vote "not guilty", no matter what evidence there is. It's perfectly legal to vote your conscience, and not a single person in that courtroom can hold you legally accountable. The Jury is the last line of defense against tyranny.
