GOALS

What are our specific goals?

The fight to legalize marijuana is being fought on multiple fronts and on different levels. Organizations are working to legalize on a Federal level, a State level, and at the local level. As a campus organization, our goals are oriented towards the local and state level. While our main, end goal is legalization and regulation of marijuana for personal, medical, and industrial use at every level, it's going to take a lot of time and effort to un-do the damage that years of government propaganda has inflicted upon the public mind. While other organizations with more money and time to devote to the cause are focusing their efforts on legislative issues and organizing rallies, DrexelNORML is going to focus on the following areas:

Education
A major part of our effort is going to be informing the public. We will do this through hosting debates, showing movies, doing tabling events where we can hand out pamphlets and other materials, and writing articles for the school and local newspapers. Other, more ambitious goals include making a commercial that can be aired on TV.

Zero Tolerance Policy
Right now, Drexels zero-tolerance policy can result in a student being expelled from school, regardless where the infraction takes place. It can happen if you're on campus, or off campus. Drexel, as an institute of higher learning, has a responsibility to have a policy that engenders education, not one which will expel somebody for ingesting a substance which is safer than aspirin. It's unfair to the students who work very hard to attend school here. One of our goals is to persuade Drexel to use a better policy in regards to marijuana.

Promote Organized Events
One big way NORML is involved in the movement is by helping other groups get publicity for their events, whether they are rallies, petitions, vigils, or marches. Having the ability to bring dozens of people to a large rally or march is something that not many organizations can claim; another of our goals is to have that ability.
