Philly ain't NYC or DC!

I'll say it straight up! Philly ain't New York City or DC. Philadelphia is a different city with it's own flavor and flare. Yes we like bright colors, yes the guys like wearing painted beards, yes the girls like to dye their hair unnatural colors, yes we ALL own a pair of Timberland or red boots. Just don't sit in your dorm room and complain about how "wack" Philly is especially since you've never been further than 8th and Market.

Philadelphia is an old city with a lot of history and historic sites and museums. Take a tour of old city (near 5th and Market, just follow the cobble stone streets). Go to the African American Museum at 7th and Arch. Listen to some blues at Warm Daddies located in old city. Just go somewhere.

Remember there is more to Philly than University City. We have other neighborhoods such as Germantown, South Philly, and Mt. Airy, and North Philly to name a couple. Just explore and see what you can find. Just don't allow yourself to spend 5 years in your dorm room convinced Philadelphia doesn't have anything to offer if you haven't made an attempt to find it's many treasures.

Parties

Parties are a good way to unwind and have fun. College parties are possibly better than clubs because everyone who attends happens to be around your same age, want to have fun, and cheap! Parties are typically between 2 - 7 dollars. Ladies are usually free before 11pm, but you never know so ladies always carry some money.

Tips for the ladies and gentlemen on parties

SEX

We know what goes on after hours in the dorms but we want everyone to realize there are consequences to all actions. If you do engage in the horizontal tango, WEAR A CONDOM at all times! Just because he appears to be well groomed and because she extremely pretty doesn't mean they won't be carrying a sexually transmittable disease.

Ladies, if you have unprotected sex, the condom breaks, or some other circumstance which may result in you becoming pregnant you can go to Planned Parenthood (215-351-5550) within 72 hours and receive the "morning after pill" for a nominal price. Planned ParentHood can also test males and females for sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancies, or consult you and answer any questions you may have.

Just remember you can always say NO!
