High School is DIFFERENT from College College is certainly different than high school. You are no longer herded into classrooms when the bell rings. No longer are you forced to have your homework or reports cards signed by your parents. Nope, this is college... you are ALL ON YOUR OWN. Some differences: Teachers are called professors.
Get
Serious!
In high school it was no sweat to write a term paper the night before or glance over your notes the morning before the test because you knew you were smart, you knew it would be easy, you knew you would get a good mark. You had confidence in your academic ability. Confidence was pouring out at the ears. Confidence will get you so far, but you have to do a lot of work if you want to excel. Keep your eyes on the prize and remain confident that you can accomplish everything.
Be optimistic! If you walk around campus you may notice many upper classmen. These students may look mad, angry, sad or even a bit insane, that's because we have allowed Drexel (the shaft) to break our spirit and we've all become jaded and skeptical. Don't let this happen to you! Drexel is a good university despite the shaft. Remember the grass is usually better on the other side. Collectively all over the country college students are complaining about the administration at their schools and how finical aid sucks. Don't forget where you came from! You're in college now. Perhaps you're the first one in your household to go to college; maybe you're the 3rd generation to go to college; whatever you situation is DON'T FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM. Many minorities will never have the opportunity to go to college but you are here. That's why you should sometimes reflect on where you are and where you came from. You may not feel it or even acknowledge it but some child is looking up to you, some older person is proud of you, and someone is supporting you. When you graduate making 60k per year, remember our forefathers and mothers who made it possible for you study at Drexel University, remember your parents who helped support you in your academic career, remember those children who yearn to be where you are now. Just remember.
