The Big-C was founded in 1995 at Drexel University. It functions as an umbrella organization for minority "Greeks" and promotes fellowship and unity among its member organizations. It also serves to raise univeristy awareness of our individual fraternities and sororities as well as our goals. It does this through various events such as "Meet the Greeks", the "Greek Carnival", and the "Black History Month Stepshow." In addition, we not only support one another, but we also strive to help in our local Philadelphia community.
The Big-C consists of the following organizations:
The Psi chapter was founded on January 21, 1920. We are the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for men of African descent. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded by seven men who recognized the need for a strong bond of Brotherhood between African Americans.
The Gamma Epsilon chapter was founded on June 24, 1945. Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded to enrich the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates.
The Delta Eta chapter was founded on February 11, 1952. Kappa Alpha Psi strives to achieve in every field of human endeavor and does so through its programming and philanthropies.
The Epsilon Phi chapter was founded on March 27, 1966. Delta Sigma Theta dedicates themselves to sisterhood, scholarship, and service.
The Alpha Chi Alpha chapter was founded on March 13, 1998. The founders of Phi Beta Sigma wished to create an organization that viewed itself as "a part of" the gerneral community rather than "apart from" the general community.
The Gamma Alpha chapter was founded in August 1996. The purpose of Iota Phi Theta is the development and perpetuation of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood among men.
The Omicron chapter was founded on December 5, 1997. Chi Upsilon Sigma prides itself with its Latino foundation with the ability to relate it to the struggles of all women. We achieve our goals through political, educational, cultural, and social awareness.
The Delta chapter was founded on April 24, 1988. Lambda Upsilon Lambda was established to address the shortcomings of academic institutions in meeting and addressing the needs of Latino students in higher education.
