Athletics and Coaching

2008

Sports have always been a huge part of my life.  There are so many aspects about the different sports I have played that I have really grown to love and respect.  Throughout my athletic career, I have played on a number of different sports teams as part of either a school or club including: Track and Field, Volleyball, Soccer, Skiing, Basketball, and Baseball, among many other sports that I would play or pick up just for fun.

Besides from the idea that being involved with sports can help lead to a healthy and active lifestyle, I also think that the concepts of discipline, camaraderie, individual effort, and teamwork are important life lessons and valuable tools that can be used for years to come.

My experiences with sports have always been positive and I have always tried to understand how the different coaches I have had over the years have coached myself and the teams as a whole that I have been on.  I like to take away what I think were positive examples from those coaches and keep them in mind when I get the chance to coach.

My senior year in college, my track team was without a hurdle coach, so I had the opportunity to help out some of the assistant coaches that would come around to keep an eye on some of the individual event practices.  As captain of the team that year, and the only upperclassman hurdler, it was nice to able to use what I had learned throughout my track and athletic career and share that with some of the underclassmen.
