How to use NXT with Matlab, "Hello Spin"



Below is a step by step guide to putting together an NXT Balancing Robot using standard Lego NXT parts.

Step 1:

-          Get an NXT brick (1) and two NXT motors (2)

Step 2:

-          Get the following items:

o   3: 2x wheels

o   4: 22x Male-Male connectors

o   5: 2x Shafts with Female Spacer

o   6: 2x Eleven Hole Female L Shafts

o   7: Hitec Gyro

o   8: 4x Female 90 deg shaft connectors

o   9: 2x Thin Female Spacer

Step 3:

-          Connect (6) to (1) using three (4)

-          Connect (8) to (2) using one (4)

-          Connect (5) to (2) by placing it in the shaft as well as (5) to (3)

-          Connect (7) to (1) using (4) and (8)

Step 4:

-          Attach the combination (3) and (5) to (2)

-          Get the data cables (10)

Step 5:

-          Connect the data cable (10) for the left motor to Port C on the top of (1)

-          Connect the data cable (10) for the right motor to Port B on the top of (1)

-          Connect the data cable (10) for the Gyro to Port S2 on the bottom of (1)

-          Make (11) out of one 18 hole female rod, one five hole L female rod and six male connectors

o   Make two of theses

Step 6:

-          Connect (11) to the other (11) and then connect that to the two (2) using the (8)

-          Donít forget to tuck the wire (10) for the Gyro through the middle of (11)

Step 7:

-          Make two five hole L shaped Female connecters with three male connectors (4)

-          Make (14) with a thirteen hole female rod and two L shaped five hole female rods with six male connecters.

-          Make (15) with one fifteen female hole rod, four three hole female hole rods and eight male connecters (4)

Step 8:

-          Attach (12), (13), (14), and (15) to (1) as shown.

-          Make sure to stick the data cable from (13) into S4 on the bottom of (1)

Step 9:

-          You now have a completed balancing robot
