Types of Quilts
Appliqué comes from the French word appliquer which means to "put on".
The Baltimore Album quilt is a famous Appliqué Quilt.
Although it looks intimidating, practice makes perfect. This "Sunbonnet Sue" appliqué is easy and fun.
You can use patterns from a child's coloring book. Make a copy of each section of the pattern. (Sunbonnet Sue has 5 sections, hat, dress, arm, hand, shoe.) Trace each section onto freezer paper and cut them out.
Iron the freezer paper pattern pieces onto different color fabric, cut out the fabric, leaving a 1/8 inch seam allowance. Appliqué onto a background fabric using the blanket stitch.
