Purpose and Goals

The Institute serves two main purposes, to:

  1. provide participants with the tools and skills to serve as resources in educational leadership for their individual institutions, and
  2. create an environment where a cross-cultural exchange of educational experiences occurs.

The ultimate goal is to improve medical education programs, developing curricula uniquely appropriate to each participant's medical school. On completion of the program, each individual should be well versed in various curricular options and designs and be able to evaluate which of those might be most useful at their medical schools.

Participants will develop and refine a plan for a curricular innovation to be initiated by the participant upon return to the home institution. There will be follow-up contact between Institute faculty and participants to facilitate and monitor the progress of the projects. It is also anticipated that those completing the program will continue to network with FAIMER and with each other, and that regional workshops addressing some of the same issues might be developed by program graduates with continuing FAIMER support.
