Eligibility and Regions
Candidates for the Institute 2004 cycle will be accepted from medical schools in the following regions:
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- South Asia
- Eastern Europe and Central Asia
- East Asia and the Pacific
Selected participants must be actively involved in undergraduate medical education at their institutions and in positions of leadership with respect to curriculum and educational policies and procedures. Preference will be given to mid-career applicants who are actively involved in medical student teaching. They must be willing and able to travel to the U.S. twice during the first program year.
Participants must be nominated by the Dean, senior academic administrative officer, or chief executive officer of their medical school who, in addition to releasing the individual from regular responsibilities at the medical school, will also need to indicate a commitment to mentor and support the activities of the Fellow upon return from the program.
A formal application must be submitted along with a description of a specific project involving curricular innovation. This project will form the basis for follow-up evaluation of the participant's activities after returning home.
English Requirement
Selected finalists will be required to take a test of English proficiency which can be waived for individuals from countries where English is the official language or from medical schools with instruction in English.
