Test Regulations
Irregular Behavior
ECFMG reserves the right to enforce necessary security measures to ensure the integrity of the testing process and to protect test materials. If you have information or evidence indicating that any type of irregular behavior or infringement of legal rights has occurred, you should contact ECFMG. Irregular behavior includes any action by applicants, examinees, potential applicants or others when solicited by an applicant and/or examinee that subverts or attempts to subvert the CSA examination process or the ECFMG certification process. Examples of irregular behavior include, but are not limited to:
- Falsifying information on the application, admission permit, or other CSA-related document;
- Taking the CSA without being eligible for it or attempting to do so;
- Failing to comply with any CSA policy, procedure, or rule, including instructions of the test center staff, while at the CSA Center;
- Interacting with any standardized patients in an unprofessional manner and/or outside of that standardized patient's given case portrayal, before, during or after the examination;
- Entering restricted areas at the CSA Center;
- Leaving the test area unescorted by a designated CSA staff member;
- Possessing and/or using unauthorized materials at the CSA Center, including but not limited to, photographic equipment; communication or recording devices, including electronic paging devices and cellular telephones; and study aids;
- Conversing with other CSA candidates in any language other than English at any time while at the CSA Center;
- Giving, receiving or obtaining unauthorized aid during the examination or attempting to do so;
- Disruptive behavior at the CSA Center;
- Seeking and/or obtaining access to examination materials or attempting to do so;
- Impersonating an examinee or engaging a substitute to take the examination;
- Making reference notes of any kind during the examination, except on the blank, numbered sheets provided;
- Altering or misrepresenting examination scores;
- Theft of examination materials;
- Any unauthorized reproduction, dissemination and/or sharing of copyrighted materials, including information about any of the cases presented during the CSA, by any means, including, but not limited to, reconstruction through memorization, e-mail, or the Internet, or attempting to do so;
- Providing or attempting to provide information relating to examination content that may give or attempt to give unfair advantage to individuals who may be taking the examination.
Instances of possible irregular behavior relating to the CSA will be investigated and reviewed initially by CSA staff. Your score may be withheld if it has not been reported previously. Those instances where staff concludes that there is reasonable evidence of irregular behavior will be presented to the CSA Committee on Irregular Behavior. Any Committee finding of irregular behavior will result in annotation of the CSA score report and the candidate's ECFMG record. If, after due consideration, the Committee determines that the irregular behavior threatened the integrity of the CSA or the ECFMG certification process, or affected the validity of the performance measure, it may order that no result be released. The Committee may also order that the examinee's ECFMG certificate be revoked or suspended, that the examinee retake the CSA, with or without special conditions, be barred from the CSA, be barred from ECFMG certification, or other appropriate action.
