  • July 2012: Dan is awarded a CAREER Development Award from Drexel University. Dan will use this award to host a mini-symposium on Kismet, CHD7, and CHARGE syndrome at Drexel on November 2nd.

  • July 2012: Congratulations to Siddhita and Brie for their review of Invertebrate models of Alzheimer's Disease published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease!
  • January 2012: Congratulations to Ginnene on her first, first author publication in Developmental Dynamics. She is now officially looking for post-doctoral positions!
  • July 2011: Dan is asked to give a platform talk at the 10th International CHARGE Syndrome Conference in Orlando Florida. He took this opportunity to see Mickey mouse for the first time as well.
  • March 2011: Dan is asked to give a platform talk in the Neurogenetics and Neural Development session at the 52nd Annual Drosophila Research Conference in San Diego.
  • David J. Melicharek, Laura C. Ramirez, Sukhdeep Singh, Rhea Thompson, and Daniel R. Marenda publish their work in Human Molecular Genetics entitled "Kismet/CHD7 regulates axon morphology, memory and locomotion in a Drosophila model of CHARGE syndrome". Additionally they received the COVER of the journal for the issue! Congratulations to Dave and the CHARGE group!
  • Neena Majumdar, Gerardo L. Paez, Shivangi M. Inamdar, Mitchell D'Rozario and Daniel R. Marenda. publish their work in Fly entitled "Map Kinase phosphorylation is dispensible for cell division, but required for cell growth in Drosophila." Congratualtions to the authors!
  • 05/2010 - The Marenda lab has been awarded an R21 grant from the NIH, NCRR to study CHARGE Syndrome in Drosophila!
  • 03/19/2010 - Dan was awarded a grant from Drexel University's Human Cognitive Enhancement Award to develop a novel late onset model of Alzheimer's Disease.
  • 1/26/2010- Siddhita successfully defends her Masters thesis at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and begins her PhD. work in the Marenda lab full time! Congratulations Siddhita!
  • Fall Quarter 2009- Dan will be teaching Bio 462, The Biology of Neuron Function.

  • 7/9/2009 2009- Ginnene has successfully passed her qualifying examination to become a PhD candidate. Congratulations Ginnene!

  • Summer Quarter 2009- Rhea Thomson, Sukhdeep Singh, and John Falcone are named STAR students to work on projects in the Marenda Lab. Congratulations!!

  • 2/11/2009- Dan presents the CoAS Dean's Seminar today entitled, “Flying in the Face of Human Disease: How We Learn Big Lessons about Diseases from the Little Fruit Fly.”

  • 12/2008- The Marenda lab publishes its first "Drexel University released" paper, "Identification of Novel Regulators of atonal Expression in the Developing Drosophila Retina". David Melicharek and Ginnene DiStefano are noted as 1st and 3rd authors. Congrats to both! See the paper in the December 2008 issue of Genetics.

  • 9/11/2008- Dan is awarded a one year PA Department of Public Health CURE Award for his grant, “Characterization and Application of a Novel Drosophila Model for CHARGE Syndrome.”

  • 8/8/2008- Dan presents his research at Loyola University Chicago School of Medicine.
