Synopsis: Tortillas
and Lullabies/Tortillas y Cancioncitas
by Lynn Reiser; Pictures by Corazones Valientes
Synopsis: Four generations of
Costa Rican women share tortillas, flowers, laundry, and lullabies.
The Spanish/English bilingual text is simple and ungarnished:
"My grandmother gathered flowers for my great-grandmother;
my mother gathered flowers for my grandmother; I gathered flowers
for my mother; and my doll gathered flowers for me. Every time
it was the same, but different." Six Costa Rican women, ranging
in age from 19 to 42, painted the illustrations in glowing acrylics.
Together, the text and illustration create a loving picture of
maternal love through the generations.
