Biolink Medical Systems is a medical software company providing healthcare IT solutions to hospitals and physician practices throughout the United States. The Engineering, Quality Assurance, Legal Services, Installation and Product Training departments are located at headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. Most employees within these departments hold advanced degrees in science, nursing, law, or education. The Philadelphia office also houses a corporate library, staffed by two information specialists and one assistant, that contains a diverse collection of resources, including access to a number of medical, engineering and education electronic databases. Recently, the chief officers at Biolink have rolled out their Seeking and Applying Information to Problem Solutions Initiative, (SAIPSI), and have appointed 8 staff members to the Training for Information Success (TIS) team. The TIS team consists of an information specialist, a senior and a junior software engineer, a senior QA engineer, one lawyer, one junior installer, the manager of product training, and one of the newest product trainers on her team. At the team’s first meeting, I am giving a presentation focusing on critical elements that need to be considered in the design of an effective training program.
