Home Security

Everyone wants to feel safe in their own home and yet without a good home security system you’re probably not as safe as you think. Although you might have the best in door and window locks if an intruder wants to get into your property - he almost certainly will. No matter how small the opening is, or even how exposed it might be to passing traffic or pedestrians - if an intruder sees an opportunity they will find a way to break into your house; day or night and whether you’re at home or not. Unfortunately, as the crime statistics show, it’s not just your possessions that are at risk from intruders, if you should happen to be in the property you and your family could get attacked as well.

How can a home security system help me?

Home security systems can be designed to exactly meet your safety requirements. However, the basic of any home security system will be the alarm that sounds in the event of an intruder attempting to gain entry to your property. Most commonly the alarm box is placed in a prominent position at the front of the property. This is usually enough of a deterrent to persuade any unauthorized person who was thinking of trying to gain entry to abandon the idea - and seek an easier property without an alarm. As always, crime prevention is much better than facing the consequences of it. If you’re worried about criminals approaching your property from another direction then alarm boxes can, if you wish, be attached to all the property’s exposed walls. Should a burglar or intruder, criminal if you will, be stupid enough to still enter your property, the alarm sound that goes off will not only alert you and your neighbors to the fact that there’s an intruder about; but can be that loud and shrill as to disorientate them and send them packing.

Alarm doors and windows can’t be enough.

As stated previously a home security system can be tailored to your very own specifications. Invariably fitted as standard to any home security system these days are internal intruder sensors. Imagine the scenario that someone had inadvertently not locked a window or door. An intruder would be able to enter your property without triggering the alarm. However, by having sensors fitted at strategically important points around your home - the alarm can still be activated. The sensors themselves can be activated by movement, heat or even sound - making them virtually impossible to be avoided. Don’t worry if you have pets, as ‘pet friendly’ sensors are also an option for your house. Modern home security systems can also be ‘zoned’, meaning that only some of the sensors are active. This can be especially useful at night time. For example, by having the hall sensor in a zone that you can activate when you go to bed, if the front door hadn’t been locked - the alarm would still ring if someone entered by that door.

If I’m not at home and my alarm goes off - who’ll know?

Either of the following two home alarm system solutions can be deployed in this event as, sadly, you can’t always rely on other people to investigate a sounding alarm. An established and reputable home security company will be able, in the event of your alarm being triggered, to arrange for a call-center to be contacted. They can then either inform you or report the incident directly to your local police office. A feature being incorporated into many home security systems is that they can also send you a SMS text, telling you not only that the alarm has sounded but even which of the sensors on your property has gone off. This means that you can then request someone to have a look at your property for you.

Is it difficult running a home security system?

The simple answer to this is - no! By using a reputable installation company they’ll explain in great detail how to operate the system once it is installed. Then you won’t have any problems with the operations guidelines and you can always contact their help desk for support if you need it. You don’t even have to worry about remembering a pass code to alarm or unarm your system. Using the very latest digital keypads you can have a fob system to set the alarm that means you only have to pass it in front of a sensor on the key pad to turn the alarm on or off. You can even have a remote key chain so you can change the alarm settings from outside of your property. Finally, don’t be afraid of having a power cut. With a home security system that features top quality equipment such as that from ADT, you can rest assured that a power cut won’t compromise your alarm. Your system will have a battery back-up that manages to provide power to the alarm system for at least 24 hours.
