Philadelphia is the Diner’s Paradise
Why is Dining in Philadelphia Satisfying
Philadelphia symbolizes all that Americans love and enjoy. Philadelphia caters to the American passion for fun, enjoyment, amusement and entertainment and obviously this has also contributed to making Philly a popular tourist destination.
Certainly good and delicious cuisine is also part of the usual fun filled life of an American! An important part to be precise. In any area of Philadelphia you will find restaurants and pubs, but don't worry, there are plenty of them. The place is virtually a diner’s paradise, so you might have a difficult decision to make: where to go for dinner? It is the diner who has to plan and decide where and what to eat. Each restaurant has its own specialty in the ambience, settings and menu that it offers and the quality of the food. The diner cannot help smacking lips and lolling out tongues expressing utmost satisfaction and fulfillment. Dining in Philadelphia is a satisfying and a fulfilling experience - you have to try it out.
What I find really fascinating about the region is that there is an organization called Philabundance, which is a non-profit organization that collects surplus food from restaurants, caterers, and such, for distribution to needy persons in the Philadelphia region. This is another reason why we are called the Brotherly City. I really like this idea as you know that when you are dining in Philadelphia no food that you leave on your plate is wasted.
The Evolution of Taste
Philadelphia's cuisine grew and evolved concerning taste a lot in recent years. Thanks to settlers from many regions of America and the world, Philadelphia became a basket of various traditions, customs and cultures. Variety of tastes, likings, choices and preferences grew. Preparation of food and eating were largely influenced by foreigners and so varieties of delicacies and dishes arose. With different styles and techniques of presentation, dishes have their special attraction in appearance and taste in Philly. Philadelphia is a place known not only for memorable dishes but also their variety and abundance. There are several Philadelphia food trade organizations that make sure that there are all types of food available in the city during all seasons.
‘Where is what’ in Philadelphia
The good thing about Philadelphia is that the cuisine there combines traditions with modernity. Traditionally prepared dishes are often served in modern ways, for example Italian dishes. They are an important part of Philadelphia's cuisine. Italian restaurants are prominent places and are the earliest ones to have been set up in Philadelphia. But especially in recent years Chinese chefs are on the rise and seem to provide an equal degree of attraction. Philadelphians have developed liking and fondness for Mexican, Thai, Spanish, and Cuban, Asian, Hawaiian, Mediterranean and Latin American cuisines. The diner has to plan and prepare for the type of meal that is to be eaten. But with so many choices I can assure you that you will find something for your taste, too.
So that you are not too overwhelmed by the choice you are facing I have some recommendations for you.
Chestnut Hill restaurant, Melting Pot, Di Palmas’ restaurant and bar share space with Fannglia restaurant which is known for its earthy and hearty cuisine of Naples. It has been existing for around three decades now. Ralph’s restaurant has been functioning for over hundred years. It has been renovated and changed structurally several times. The chef's specialty is the typical classic “south Philly” food that is eaten in a family atmosphere.
Other eating joints in Philadelphia’s are Swanky Bubbles Tangerine, Warmdaddy’s, which has an atmosphere of club with the blues, jazz and soul music. Dante’ and Luigi’s Restaurant is again more than hundred years old and is still a favorite among diners in spite of changes that have taken place all this while. Then there is Cheesesteaks that people still visit to have a satisfying meal. Vetri has limited seating arrangement and commands high price. Tre Scalim has modest looks but is famous for the tastefully prepared cuisine.
Only the select few would visit this Italian place. Spaghetti Warehouse, Mamma Mario’s restaurants and Maria’s are other popular joints in Philadelphia’s ‘where is what’ list. For diners who are of modern bent, there is Alma de Cuba, Brasserie Perrier, Capital grills, Davio’s, Le Bec Fin, Fountain Restaurant, Roy’s, Morimoto, Shula’s Steakhouse, Sotto Varalli, Striped Bass, Zanzibar Blue and The Prime Rib to chose from. Diners’ Preferences
As you can see Philadelphia has an abundant presence of places where you can have spectacular food. The menus of the different restaurants are varied covering seafood, livestock, poultry and also vegetables and lentils so that no section of diners is left out. From soups to start with to desserts as the item to make the meal something to remember, the menu has a wide range. Another good thing about Philadelphia is that the diner's preferences are important to the cooks and restaurant staff here. You will get what ever you like from native or foreign cuisine.
