About baking classes

Getting into a baking class is not at all that hard.  First of all you’ll need to find one that will meet your needs.  Some classes may last for several hours while other several months, and so you need to decide on how much you would like to do.  Then you’ll need to decide upon the level of baking that you would like to learn.  For instance a beginner will need a basic class that teaches the essentials to getting started.  A more experienced baker would be challenged by learning new and more complex recipes and techniques in baking in an advanced class.  Once you have determined the type of  baking class that you want, the next step is finding one.  Your local newspaper, phonebook or online directory can help you get started on your search.  When you do find the right class, the next thing to do is to get registered.  You will need to know where the class is located, when it will start and what the schedule is for the course.  Don’t forget to ask what books or materials you might need for the first day and then your ready to start baking!

How to bake

Here are a few tips for your first day.  Remember to always wash up before beginning any baking project.  Clean hands ensure that you are not getting anything unhealthy into your baked goods.  It is important when baking to be able to read the ingredients and instructions, and I don’t just mean being able to read the words but also understanding the symbols for measurements and what the ingredients are in your recipe.  For instance learning how much 1 cup measures or knowing that Tbsp means tablespoon.  Part of a baking class will be teaching you these basic instructions.  As well as knowing what an ingredient like ginger or vanilla is so that you get the right ingredients into your recipe.  It's also important to know that baking requires precise measurements.  If it says 1lb, or pound of Crisco then that is what it means.  You have to ensure that each ingredient in the recipe is measured correctly or your baked goods may not turn out right.  You will need to learn what kneading is and what the difference between mixing and pureeing is or you won’t get the right consistency of the recipe for baking.  Baking is really an art, and a baking class will teach you all these essentials to ensure that whatever you bake is great.
