Skills Assessment - courtyard

delivery: Upload your final edited version of courtyard.jpg to your website, to the folder /652/images, then complete the assignment in Blackboard, attaching the same file (courtyard.jpg) and include in the comments 1) its file size; 2) a brief explanation of how and why you edited it; and 3) the URL of the photo on your website.

Procedure

  1. Start with the file courtyard.jpg (1,432kb). You can download this by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Save link as..."
  2. Using Photoshop Elements, or your favorite photo editor, resize the image to 72ppi and 600 x 450 pixels in size
  3. Select the yellow flowers and alter them, separately from the rest of the image (you could alter saturation and hue, apply filters, adjust brightness and contrast, etc.)
  4. Don't forget to save your work now, in .psd format
  5. Invert your selection and alter the background of the image, separately from the flowers
  6. Add the text "Drexel iSchool 2008" to a new layer of your image (use your year of graduation)
  7. Edit your text and add layer effect. Ensure that the font, color, and effects result in a legible text.
  8. Save for web, as .jpg, ensuring that the final file size is under 300kb.
  9. Upload one copy of "courtyard.jpg" to a new folder on dunx1:
    1. FTP to your dunx1 account, to the public_html folder
    2. open the "652" folder
    3. create a new folder, inside 652, called "images" (all lowercase)
    4. your file should end up with a URL in this format:
      http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~username/652/images/courtyard.jpg
