As
part of its $42-million building and renovation project,
Jeanes Hospital added a new main entrance and 208-bed Patient Care
Center. The lobby interior was designed to reflect the strong
Quaker heritage of the hospital’s founder, Anna T. Jeanes, while
capturing the warmth and residential feeling of the original 1928
Founders Building. The retail gift shop and cafe directly
adjacent, incorporate the same beautiful wood detailing and soothing
colors first seen in the lobby. The gift shop has
dramatic exterior windows which allow for direct displays of the
shop’s merchandise as visitors first approach the main entrance.
In
the Quaker tradition, the Owner wished to recognize donor gifts in
an elegant, yet understated fashion. The donor tiles, the
creation of Philadelphia artist, Karen Singer, incorporate natural
motifs each representing a level of giving. The donor names
were hand stamped in the cobalt blue field so as to blend quietly
and harmoniously.
