Baking With Kids

It has been raining for the past two days.  The children have been cooped up in the house and are showing definite signs of restlessness.  Susie Q is using the couch as a trampoline and you don’t like the way Junior’s eyeing the goldfish.  With something akin to desperation you suggest you all bake a special treat together to relieve the boredom.  They enthusiastically agree, but as the second raw egg shatters on the floor and flour is spilt all over the counter, you can’t help but wonder...  Was this really such a good idea?

Of course it was!

Baking is an activity that almost every child can enjoy.  They get to spend time with you, eat sweets, and feel just a little grownup.  Working in the kitchen can also help children develop their math and reasoning skills as well help them learn to follow directions.  Unfortunately adults tend to shy away from letting children help in the kitchen because they are wary of the hazards.

Along with delicious recipes, this site provides helpful hints that can minimize the chaos that kids can accidently create when they work in the kitchen.
