Are you sick of sitting in traffic in your idling car? Are you concerned about global warming? Is it a challenge for you to find time to exercise? Do you spend a lot of money on gas and parking fees or trains/buses? If you commute to work and answered yes to any one of these questions, this site may offer helpful suggestions on how to break free from the prison of your car. You might be surprised how liberating it is to use a bicycle instead of a car.

My husband and I have been commuting to work by bicycle for over 15 years and want to promote others to try it out too.  For the last 3 years we have been commuting from the suburbs of Philadelphia to downtown — 8.5 miles.  Out of approximately 740 commuting days during this time, we have driven our car to work exactly 18 times. The page titled “Our Experience” includes details on exactly that, how we do our ride everday. It includes details on everything from wardrobe issues to inclement weather issues.

Cycling to work  is a win-win-win-win-win-win-win situation:

· Save gas – which saves money and the environment

· Save Money – (our family saves over $2,000/year because we commute by bike instead of by car)

· Save time – For our 8.5 mile (one way) commute, we spend 35 minutes from door to door. By car it takes over 50 minutes. PLUS time is saved by combining a workout with the commute .

· Stay/Get Fit – We get over an hour of exercise everyday by riding to work . (no need to promote the benefits of exercise).

· Enjoy being  Eco-Friendly —  You WILL feel much better on a bike instead of in a car, knowing you are not mindlessly consuming oil, and spewing exhaust, particularly if you are unfortunate enough to have to drive in traffic jams

· Enjoy the sensation of  zooming past the countless masses sitting in their cars in traffic. Something one can’t possibly understand until it’s been experienced - (see our video clips on zooming past traffic jams on our Bike to Work Vids section on the “Our Experience” page).

· Be delighted that you are serving as a role model for your children/friends/coworkers to get on their bikes and out of their cars.
