The balance of signals promoting cell survival and apoptosis is critical for the maintenance and renewal of differentiated tissues, and its disruption is associated with such devastating pathologies as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, including neuroAIDS.

Research in this laboratory is focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate neuronal survival/differentiation, and the events underlying the neuro-pathogenesis of AIDS. Thus, a major area of interest revolves around the roles of chemokine receptors in the CNS.
