Mission Statement :

The Drexel Badminton Club is an organization structure which allows badminton enthusiasts to share their interest in the sport by practing and playing competitively. The club is open to all Drexel University students and official affiliates.


Contribution to Campus Life:

Drexel Badminton Club provides students the opportunity to get more familiar with the sport and meet new people. Club members can learn a lot about rules, strategies and drills of badminton. The Club is highly involved in Invitational, Collegiate and Open badminton tournaments. Everyone has a chance to participate. Badminton is an Olympic sport and it's gaining numerous fans everyday. Along with soccer, it is one of two sports that draws an "international" crowd here at Drexel.


Eligibility:

All current and actively enrolled Drexel University students are eligible and welcome to join us. This club does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, etc. This however, does not guarantee the membership to any individual that may bring a negative influence to the organization.


Interesting Badminton facts:
  1. Badminton is the world's fastest racket sport: a shuttle can leave the racket at a speed of almost 200 mph.
  2. After soccer, badminton is the world's most popular sport.
  3. More than 1.1 billion people watched badminton's Olympic debut on TV
  4. 147 countries are members of the International Badminton Federation (IBF)
  5. A badminton player can cover more than one mile in just one match.
  6. 16 feathers are used to make a shuttle.
  7. A shuttlecock weighs between 4.74 and 5.50 grams.
  8. The best shuttles are made from the feathers from the left wing of a goose.
  9. The biggest shuttle in the world can be found on the lawns of the Kansas City Museum 48 times larger than the real thing, 18 feet tall and weighing 2500 kilo.
  10. China and Indonesia have captured 70 percent of all championship events since 1934.
  11. It is an American, Judy Hash-man, who holds the record number of All-England titles 17 in total.
